个人简介

Gary Moss is one of the UK's most respected patent litigators, recognised for leading market-defining SEP and FRAND disputes and advising clients on their most strategically significant patent enforcement and licensing matters.

With more than 40 years' experience, Gary acts for leading technology companies, patent owners and innovators in complex patent litigation across the UK and internationally. He is particularly known for his expertise in Standard Essential Patents (SEPs), FRAND licensing disputes and multi-jurisdictional litigation strategy, helping clients navigate issues at the intersection of intellectual property, competition and commercial law. Clients seek him out for his ability to combine deep legal expertise with commercially focused strategic advice. Emphasising intellectual property as a brand asset to be utilised to its maximum effect.

Gary founded EIP's litigation practice in 2011, pioneering an integrated attorney-litigator model that allowed his firm to handle all aspects of litigation strategy in house. He has led teams in a series of landmark cases that have influenced SEP and FRAND jurisprudence worldwide, including Unwired Planet v Huawei, Conversant Wireless v Huawei and ZTE, and Optis Wireless v Apple.

Taking the Optis Wireless vs Apple case as an example, the judgement won by Gary's team significantly reestablished English courts as an appropriate jurisdiction in which SEP holders can litigate FRAND issues. The $700m total payment is believed to be the largest value set by the UK court in a patent dispute. The EIP team lead by Gary was shortlisted for IP team of the Year 2025 at the British Legal Awards for this case and made The Times Best Law Firms list for 2025.

Gary also drove an international expansion into key patent litigation jurisdictions, notably guiding the opening of EIP's Dusseldorf office. Since 2025, he was recognised as a 'Patent Star 2026' by IP Stars, was in the IAM Patent 1000 2026, was ranked as an Eminent Practitioner by Chambers 2026, placed in the legal 500 UK 2026 and placed in the WIPR Hall of Fame. This follows on from a consistent span of being placed in said directories over the last 20 years.

Few practitioners can match Gary's combination of courtroom experience, strategic leadership and direct involvement in the cases that have shaped the global framework for SEP licensing and enforcement.
