James Hindle

James is experienced in handling patents in technical fields including computer software, telecommunications, consumer electronics and medical imaging. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in the UK, Europe and worldwide for clients ranging from SMEs to major corporations. James is well placed to advise clients on the new Unified Patent Court (UPC) - see further details at EIP Amar, our alliance created to support clients in any litigation before the UPC.

James is also regularly involved in patent litigation matters and has provided litigation support for proceedings before the UK high court relating to telecommunications standards essential patents.

Prior to joining EIP, James worked as a patent examiner at the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO). This gives him a valuable perspective when drafting and prosecuting patent applications. While at the UKIPO, aside from his work as a patent examiner, James worked on the passage of the IP (Unjustified Threats) Act 2017, providing support at parliamentary debates and preparing guidance for businesses on the new law.

James has a Master’s degree in physics from the University of Oxford, where he specialised in condensed matter physics and atmospheric physics.
