As a patent attorney with more than a decade of experience in patent law and a strong technical background in physics and software, Michael is able to provide clear and comprehensive advice on complex patent matters in high-tech industries.
Michael's work spans patent preparation and prosecution as well as contentious matters before the Unified Patent Court (UPC) and the opposition divisions and Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office. He has already been active before the UPC, and regularly advises clients on related matters, in particular on substantive law issues such as infringement and validity of European patents.
Before qualifying as a patent attorney, Michael studied physics at Imperial College London, graduating with a Master’s degree in Physics with Theoretical Physics. During his studies he focused on computational physics, which led to an ongoing interest in software development. In recent years, this technical background has been put to good use when advising on matters in the fields of optics and photonics, microfabrication, quantum computing, mechanical engineering, video gaming, and video/audio streaming.
Michael begain his career at a leading London IP firm, where he trained and qualified as a UK and European Patent Attorney. In 2019 he moved to Finland, where he held a senior position at at top-tier Finnish IP firm before joining EIP in 2025. His work before the European Patent Office has been recognised in the IAM 1000 guide, where he is one of a small number of patent attorneys recommended in the EPO category. He has also been recognised by IP Stars as a “Rising Star” and “Notable Practitioner”.
