Joel joined EIP as Patent Scientist with a background in Physics. He gained a First Class MPhys degree from the University of Oxford, with a focus on condensed matter and atmospheric physics. For his master’s project, Joel wrote a computer program displaying the time evolution of neighbouring atomic spins in ferromagnets. This allowed for the visualisation of the spin dynamics of Dirac magnons on a ferromagnetic honeycomb lattice, which have dispersion linear in wavevector, in analogy to the dispersion of electrons in graphene.
Joel taught himself Japanese to fluency in just three years, and works in Japanese with our Japanese clients prosecuting patent applications in Europe.
