Angela is an experienced barrister and a member of EIP's litigation team. Since joining EIP, Angela has been involved in Patent and FRAND litigation and in successful cases from the IPEC and High Court through to the Supreme Court, including Unwired Planet v Huawei. She is a law graduate and more recently gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Oxford.
Prior to joining EIP, Angela practised from Chambers in the Temple and appeared at tribunals and courts from first instance to the Court of Appeal.
Experience
- Patent litigation: Involved in various disputes concerning video coding, telecoms and pharmaceutical patents, second medical use claims and formulation patents, including strategic advice and trial preparation.
- Nokia v Amazon: Acting in RAND litigation concerning video coding patents. Lead associate on Interim Licence appeal.
- Optis v Apple: Part of the UK team acting for the Optis group in a patent dispute with Apple, including FRAND trial, Trial B addressing estoppel defences and Trial F (and appeal) regarding enforcement of ETSI undertakings.
- Unwired Planet v Huawei: Working for Unwired Planet in relation to their FRAND proceedings from the High Court trial through to the Supreme Court appeal. Also involved in technical proceedings and in relation to anti-suit proceedings. (link)
- Technetix v Teleste: Acted for Teleste in defencing against patent infringement claims in both the Patents Court and the IPEC in the field of electronics. The latter proceedings involved the first consideration of the “Formstein defence” in English law. (link)
- Good Technology v MobileIron: Part of the team representing Good Technology Inc in mobile device management patent litigation. (link)

- Acting for Unwired Planet and Conversant Wireless in successful Supreme Court proceedings against Huawei (and ZTE for Conversant) on the issue of FRAND in the context of Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) in the field of telecommunication. (link)
- Acting for Teleste in successfully defending a claim for patent infringement by Technetix BV in the United Kingdom Patents Court in the field of cable TV equipment. (link)
- Acting for Unwired Planet and Conversant in the Supreme Court appeals brought by Huawei and ZTE. (link)
