He joined EIP after completing a PhD in Mathematics at Durham University, where his research focused on high energy physics, including quantum field theory and string theory. His doctoral work explored the reformulation of non-abelian gauge theory as a string theory with a non-standard interaction, an area bridging advanced mathematics and theoretical physics.
Chris also holds a first-class MSci degree in Physics with Theoretical Physics from the University of Nottingham, where he was awarded multiple prizes in recognition of his academic achievements. His undergraduate and postgraduate studies covered a wide range of technical fields including quantum mechanics, general relativity, and advanced mathematical methods.
Since entering the patent profession, Chris has built extensive experience in advising clients on patent matters. His work includes the drafting and prosecution of patent applications across a variety of cutting-edge technologies, with particular experience in computer-implemented inventions, holographic display technologies, and consumer electronics.
Chris has also been at the forefront of integrating artificial intelligence into patent-related workflows, using emerging tools and technologies to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of patent drafting, searching, and portfolio analysis. He is actively involved in exploring how AI can streamline processes, assist clients in identifying valuable inventions, and support strategic decision-making.
Chris works with a diverse range of clients, from early-stage startups to multinational corporations. He has handled global portfolios and assisted with freedom-to-operate assessments.
Chris’s ability to bridge deep technical understanding with practical IP strategy and his proactive embrace of innovation within the legal profession makes him a trusted advisor to clients operating at the frontier of science and technology.
