Ben Hoyle contributes to European Patents Handbook

Ben Hoyle, a senior associate at EIP, has been asked to contribute to the next edition of the European Patents Handbook, to be released in July 2012.

The European Patents Handbook is published three times a year by Sweet & Maxwell and is the official handbook on European patents from the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys. The handbook is written from a practitioner’s perspective and details all aspects of applying for, and obtaining, a European patent at the European Patent Office (EPO). The Handbook is a valuable reference for patent professionals worldwide.

Ben will have responsibility for Chapter 18A on computer-related inventions. He will draw upon his professional expertise to document the challenges faced by patent applicants in this area and provide practical guidance to overcome these challenges. He will also provide a concise review of recent key Board of Appeal cases relating to inventive step and so-called ‘technical’ subject-matter, as well as commenting on the recent updates to the Guidelines for Examination.
