UK creativity on show at Innovate 11

A wealth of innovative companies and organisations which facilitate innovation were among the exhibitors at Innovate 11, attended by senior associates from EIP.

Innovate 11 is the major annual event hosted by the Technology Strategy Board, the UK’s national innovation agency which supports business-led innovation for the benefits of economic growth.

The event featured a keynote speech from The Rt Hon Dr Vince Cable on the importance of innovation in growing the economy. Another highlight of the day was a talk by Dr Hermann Hauser, a leading figure and advisor to the Government on innovation.  In particular, he encouraged the development of Technology and Innovation Centres (TICs) for aiding and capitalising the flow of innovation from universities to industry; something which he argues could be more effectively done in the UK.

EIP senior associate Matthew Blaseby said: “It is reassuring that the Government is backing innovation as a means of driving the economy. For example, there will be at least six TICs as part of a drive in High Value Manufacturing, to encourage innovation and its dissipation through the economy. One example is the National Composites Centre which will promote research and a new community in the exciting field of composites.

“It was impressive to see the breadth of creativity the UK can offer, in many industries, on show at Innovate 11. We look forward to next year’s event!”
