The 2019 edition of the European Patent Office’s Guidelines for Examination in the EPO have been updated to clarify the approach taken for assessing inventive step, removing a contradiction from the 2018 Guidelines.

In an article published in the Journal of Intellectual Property Law and Practice, Gemma Wooden, Matthew Blaseby and Derk Visser explore the updates and discuss practical tips for successfully arguing inventive step.
