Tom Brazier

Tom Brazier is a leading patent litigator recognised for his work on some of the UK's most significant disputes in the standardised technologies and pharmaceutical sectors. Clients turn to him for technically complex, commercially critical litigation and strategic advice on patent enforcement, licensing and cross-border dispute resolution.

In the standardised technologies sector, Tom has particular expertise in global licensing strategy, jurisdiction challenges, anti-suit relief and interim licences. He regularly advises patent owners on the enforcement and monetisation of their international SEP portfolios.

Tom has acted in many of the leading UK FRAND disputes. He represented Unwired Planet and Conversant in their landmark litigation against Huawei and ZTE, helping to establish the UK as a leading forum for the determination of global FRAND licences. He also acted for Optis in its successful SEP dispute against Apple, resulting in a FRAND licence valued at more than US$700 million, the largest award of its kind determined by a UK court. His experience further includes representing Alcatel and Nokia in RAND proceedings against Amazon relating to video coding technologies, and ASUS in its cellular SEP dispute with Xiaomi.

Tom also has substantial pharma expertise. He represented Warner-Lambert (Pfizer) in the landmark Lyrica® litigation against Actavis and Mylan, one of the most important second medical use patent disputes of recent decades. He also helped secure interim injunctive relief against Sandoz to prevent the launch of a full label generic version of Lyrica®. In addition, Tom has advised major pharmaceutical companies on the European and global enforcement of patents protecting blockbuster products.

Beyond his litigation practice, Tom is a recognised commentator on developments in FRAND and UPC litigation. He regularly publishes in leading intellectual property publications and contributes to industry discussion on patent licensing and enforcement strategy and the evolving role of the UPC in global patent disputes.

Tom was recognised as a "Rising Star" by The Legal 500 and has been ranked as a "Patent Star" by Managing IP's IP STARS for four consecutive years.
