Leading UK IP lawyer Gary Moss joins EIP on 1 November from his previous position as Head of Intellectual Property Litigation at McDermott Will & Emery UK LLP (MWE) in London.

EIP is setting up a new practice group, to be branded EIP Legal™. Gary’s role as head of EIP Legal is the culmination of a career in IP litigation which spans more than 30 years.

A recognised leader in his field, Gary has a wealth of experience in handling large scale UK IP disputes and also cross-border IP disputes both in Europe and the United States. He has acted in a number of high profile cases including the leading case of Kirin-Amgen v Hoechst Marion Roussel, and Research in Motion v Visto Corporation.

Gary’s career includes spells as the Head of IP at Taylor Joynson Garrett (now Taylor Wessing) in the late 1990s and then as the Managing Partner London at Taylor Wessing from 2001 to 2004. In the latter role Gary oversaw the merger between TJG and Wessing of Germany and the subsequent opening of TW’s office in Paris.

The EIP Legal practice group is the latest development for the firm, which is already well known for its strength in the TMT (Technology, Media and Telecommunications) sector, and follows a string of recent hires of highly experienced patent attorneys at partner level in the life sciences and pharmaceuticals sectors. EIP has also recently opened an office in Leeds, adding to the existing regional offices in Bath and Cardiff, and its head office in London.

Partner Jerome Spaargaren said: “The appointment of Gary Moss is a significant move for EIP and marks an exciting new direction for the firm. Gary is a highly experienced IP litigator and he will be an asset to the practice. EIP’s combination of patent attorneys and lawyers means we are able to provide clients with a seamless, all round service dealing with all aspects of IP from its inception, through development, registration and licensing to its enforcement.”

New partner Gary Moss said: “I have previously worked with the partners at EIP on a number of cases and together we have achieved some excellent results for our clients. The formation of a litigation practice by a firm of patent and trademark attorneys is quite a new departure for the UK and very exciting for me personally. It will enable us to offer clients a much more complete service under one roof, bringing together all the necessary disciplines.”
