Building a Resilient Quantum Patent Portfolio: Winning the Race to File First

Iain Russell, head of EIP Designs, has been given the opportunity to shape the direction of the CIPA Advanced UK patent exams after being appointed to the Joint Examination Board.

Iain is a UK and European patent attorney and the author of How to Pass P3, the first ever book on the UK patent drafting examination. Iain’s expertise covers patents in the electronics and mechanical fields, including telecommunications and computer-implemented inventions. He joined EIP in February 2011.

Iain becomes the second attorney from EIP to sit on the JEB, in addition to Alice Mastrovito, the head of EIP Brands, who has been a member of the examination board since May 2008.

Martin Hammler, of the Joint Examination Board, said: “We were impressed with Iain’s interest in the acquisition of drafting skills, and in particular his ‘P3 Notes’, which provide a practical guide on how to approach the P3 exam.”

EIP partner Jerome Spaargaren said: “Being invited to join the Joint Examination Board represents a significant personal achievement for Iain. He is evidently held in high regard by his peers and this latest accolade is remarkable for someone who is at a relatively early stage in his career as a patent attorney.”
