Partner Darren Smyth has joined the select team of contributors to the popular IP blog, the IPKat.

Darren, the head of EIP Elements, will be one of three current guest bloggers writing regular posts on all matters related to IP, until June 2012.

His appointment as a guest blogger, along with his first post “What's the use of contraception? Don't ask the EPO”, relating to the patentability of methods of contraception at the EPO, was announced today.

Darren plans to blog not only about the field of chemistry and life sciences, but also about European patent law and practice generally, as well as the often neglected field of registered designs.

Darren said: “The IPKat is one of the most respected IP blogs, and I have read it closely since it began in 2003. I’m delighted to become a part of the team, and am looking forward to sharing my views on the world of IP as a guest blogger over the next five months.”

For regular alerts about Darren’s posts on the IPKat, follow EIP Elements on Twitter and the EIP Elements blog.
